US music sales boosted last year for the first time since 2004, figures as of Nielsen Sound scan have revealed.

Album sales rose by 1.3% in 2011 - largely thanks to British star Adele, who shifted 5.8m copies of her award-winning second album, 21.

Michael Buble sold 2.4m copies of his Christmas album, while Lady Gaga's Born This Way was bought by 2.1m fans.

In total, 4.4m more albums were bought in 2011 than in 2010, with CD remaining the most popular format. The figures shows only one in three albums were purchased digitally.

Perry Music Festival stuns Middle Georgia

Live music, free food, face painting and hot-air balloon games filled the streets of downtown Perry Saturday. From southern rock to gospel people found different kinds of music at the many venues scattered around the streets of historic downtown Perry during the second annual Perry Music Festival.

Perry Mayor Jimmy Faircloth estimated over 5,000 people attended the music festival to hear the 41 bands that performed on four different stages set up throughout downtown. The festival was also family oriented with a Children’s music stage and a kid’s village of lively houses set up in the center of downtown. One local church was even cooking and passing out free hotdogs to festival go-ers.

And the football games didn’t keep the crowds away. Restaurants in downtown Perry had their doors open with TV’s set up airing the Georgia/Florida football game.

Roland Everettfall, Vocalist with The Light word Band says he is thankful to the city of Perry for giving his band the chance to perform.Everettfall said, “This is a great opportunity for any musical group to get outside with such a wonderful setting as this and with such professional equipment as this and just be together out in the community to enjoy the people, enjoy the fellowship and enjoy the community spirit”.

Faircloth says they hosted the festival again this year due to the overwhelming response after last year’s event, and after seeing the big turnout this year he says the festival will return again next year even bigger and better.
